Description of properties: Colorless, transparent and flammable Sexual fluid with an odor similar to ethanol. Melting point -88.5°C, freezing point -89.5°C, boiling point 82.45°C, vapor pressure (20°C) 4.4kPa, relative density 0.7855 (20/4°C), refractive index 1.3772, viscosity (20°C) 2.4mPa s, flash point 22 ℃. The upper limit of spontaneous combustion in air is 7.99%, and the lower limit is 2.02%. Miscible with water, ethanol, ether and chloroform.
Production method: 2-propanol can be produced by fermentation. To produce 1t of 2-propanol requires 16t of grain. Propylene hydration was adopted in the industry, and sulfuric acid hydration (also known as indirect hydration) was adopted earlier. In 1951, the British Bunemen Chemical Industry Company began to produce 2-propanol with propylene direct hydration.
1. Indirect hydration method, propylene reacts with sulfuric acid to first obtain isopropyl hydrogen sulfate, which is hydrolyzed to form isopropyl alcohol.
2. Direct hydration method: Propylene and water are heated and pressurized in the presence of a catalyst to perform a hydration reaction.
Usage: It is widely used as organic raw material and solvent. As a chemical raw material, it can produce acetone, hydrogen peroxide, methyl isobutyl ketone, diisobutyl ketone, isopropylamine, isopropyl ether, isopropanol ether, isopropyl chloride, and fatty acid isopropyl ester and chlorine Substitute fatty acid isopropyl ester, etc.
In fine chemicals, it can be used to produce isopropyl nitrate, isopropyl xanthate, triisopropyl phosphite, aluminum triisopropoxide, medicines and pesticides, etc.
As a solvent, it can be used to produce coatings, inks, extractants, aerosols, etc. It can also be used as antifreeze, cleaning agent, additive for blending gasoline, dispersant for pigment production, fixative for printing and dyeing industry, antifogging agent for glass and transparent plastic, etc.
